Wayside Inn Holiday Decorating

The Hopkinton Garden Club was proud to once again take part in the long-standing tradition of decorating the historic Wayside Inn for the holiday season. For more than 50 years, this project has been led by the Sudbury Garden Club, which now welcomes many neighboring clubs—including Hopkinton—to help transform the Inn into a festive showcase.

On Tuesday, December 2nd, more than 100 volunteers from area garden clubs gathered to decorate rooms throughout the Inn. Each club is assigned a specific space, and the Hopkinton Garden Club once again adorned the Howe Room with traditional Colonial-style greens accented with pine cones and fruit.

This year, the lobby tree features a special theme: “Patriotic Yuletide Jubilee: A Celebration of America’s 250th Birthday.” Many clubs contributed handmade ornaments reflecting the theme—visitors are encouraged to stop by and enjoy the creativity on display!

A big thank-you to our decorating team—Ann Hogaboom, Henry Schmidt, Susan Schiavi, Lynn Taylor, Liz Swenson, Audrey Dempsey, and Nancy Stevenson—for representing our club with such care and craftsmanship.

Fun facts about the Wayside Inn decorations:

  • Over 100 candles and more than 60 wreaths are used throughout the building.

  • Many decorations are handmade by volunteers.

  • Some volunteers have been participating for over 25 years.
